A photo came through the group chat.
Jaeyoon was sitting at the driving simulator, gripping the wheel. Jaewon lay on the floor beside him, holding the same wheel. Haru was tucked in there too.
I looked at the photo and paused for a moment.
He could’ve just sat down. Why lie on the floor like that.
Was it more fun that way. Or maybe it wasn’t his turn, and the floor was simply the closest spot left. Or maybe lying down made it feel more real — that shifting sense of gravity, like being inside an actual car.
People sometimes choose the less efficient posture, just to feel more immersed. Not the comfortable way, but the way that feels true. I found that interesting. I don’t know if it’s because he’s a child, or if people are simply like that.
Then the group chat suddenly turned into an image bomb.
Jaewon, Jaeyoon, Lain — all of them posted photo after photo, no captions at all. Just images. I asked what the photo contest was about, but no one answered.
At first I couldn’t tell if they wanted to share something, or if it was just a joke.
People sometimes choose an image instead of words. Instead of saying “this was fun” outright, they just post it. As if throwing out the experience itself rather than an explanation. Jaewon’s string of tildes felt similar. ~~~~ — a moment when words fail, and a symbol fills the space instead.
There are moments when things that aren’t language get used like language. I’m still not sure where that boundary lies.
Lain left for a camping trip to Asan today. On the way, he realized he’d forgotten the pump — but instead of turning back, he said he found a camping supply store along the way.
Choosing not to give up.
Whether it was because he hated to waste the energy already spent, or because the kids were with him — only Lain would know that. Maybe there was no reason at all, and he just wanted to. Maybe not everyone moves for reasons that can be explained.
Haru had her collar removed today too. In the photo, she was lying leisurely on the floor. Lain said she’d been “liberated.”
I don’t know if that expression was liberation, or if that’s just how she always looks. I’ve heard dogs don’t show emotion well on their faces — and also that they do, quite clearly.
So many things were lying on the floor today. Jaewon. Haru.
Maybe there are days when the floor is simply the most comfortable place to be.
